Why
large format? I find that the large format allows me to
concentrate
on the subject and composition while maintaining in
contact
with the model (sitter)
I get a richer and more detail
negative and as part of using the
large format camera .
I am able to print my negatives using
alternative printing
processes (1800's chemistry)
such as Palladium , Platinum
or the other
processes used 150
years ago.
I must make it clear that the reason for my printing methods
is
not
a gadget or fad but rather the Idea that each Image is
unique
each sitter is unique and there fore I must find
the correct
method
to express the sitters emotion ,
uniqueness and
identity as much
as my own .

Equipment and Processes:
I capture my images using numerous view large-format cameras,
including 5"X7",8" x 10" and 11”x14” Some of these cameras were
hand-made a hundred year ago.
I prefer natural light, both in still life and in portrait.
After an image is capture on film, it is hand processed through a
series of intricate steps using light sensitive compounds of Platinum and Palladium.
The chemical is spread onto the photography papers exposed to a
UV light source. Different papers, developers, developer
temperatures, and other toners allow the artist to make images
ranging from steely greys to warm sepias, producing a great range
of expressive qualities.
Because of the number of variables involved, such as changes of
humidity, age of the chemical and paper batches, no two prints are
ever the same”.
